Tuition Timetable

Basic Dressmaking : 9:30 - 11:30 AM OR 7:00 - 9:00 PM

  Basic Dressmaking  

The Basic Dressmaking course is scheduled over 5 weeks and covers: how to measure in order to purchase a pattern, how to cut your pattern to the correct size, how to lay the pattern out correctly on your selected fabric, how to make the necesary alterations to the pattern and how to cut the pattern out.

Our aim is for you to create two garments in the five week course and to teach you how to construct the garments following the pattern instructions or via 'fast track' methods that we have found easier than the suggested manufacturer's procedure. During the course you will also learn a number of techniques regardiung the advanced use of your sewing machine.

All classes are held between 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM.

General introduction to equipment operation; tension settings; starting and finishing; rolled hem; lace insertion; blind hemming and elastic application.

Construct a strip piece table runner and learn quilting as you progress. This exercise provides a simple method to begin more advanced machine quilting.
